The IBEW First District is honoured to receive the following message from International President Kenneth Cooper recognizing a proud milestone for our union in Canada. With membership now surpassing 71,000, President Cooper reflects on the work of our members and Local Union leaders, the growth we have achieved together, and the opportunities ahead for the IBEW across Canada.
Message from IBEW International President, Kenneth Cooper:
Congratulations to the IBEW First District on reaching 71,000 members and 250 new employers
Today, I congratulate First District on surpassing 71,000 members across Canada.
Over the past four years, the District has added more than 9,000 net new members and organized over 250 new employers. These accomplishments showcase the strength of the IBEW across Canada and the work of our Local Unions and members.
Local Union leaders have renewed their focus on organizing by sharing ideas, supporting one another, and taking responsibility for building a stronger IBEW for the next generation. IBEW leaders have also built stronger relationships with governments at every level and strengthened our political voice in discussions about Canada’s future.
Canada is the largest geographic District in the IBEW, with diverse communities, unique challenges, and great distances. Across the country, our members have shown what we can achieve when we work together with determination, solidarity, and a common purpose to deliver results for working people.
As International President, I am extremely proud of what our members and leaders have accomplished. Congratulations to the entire First District. You have shown what is possible when members unite and leaders step forward. We are truly Stronger Together.
